|Noche de San Juan takes place every year on the 23 June. It is the celebration of midsummer, they longest day of the year. All along the beaches, bonfires are lit. Sone towns like Sabinillas take one year to build a wooden construction which is absolutely breathtaking and set this on fire at midnight. The constructions are so detailed that it is a shame to set it on fire, but the Spaniards take pride in their constructions. After that there are usually fireworks.|
Traditions / Superstitions
* write 3 wished on a piece of paper and at midnight you walk barefoot into th sea and throw the paper into the water
* write 3 things on a piece of papar that you want to get rid of and throw them into the bonfire that are ignited along the beaches. If you dare to jump over the fire, but usually this ends in injuries and is not recommended
* fill a bottle with water from the sea and place it in a corner of your house until next year. It is supposed to bring luck.
